What’s going on y’all?! I hope that your Thanksgiving breaks were filled with joy and love from all your family members and friends. We only got a couple more weeks to go so let’s keep on pushing✊🏾 A lot of people ask me on a daily basis “Jack how early do you get up because you always look so nice??” Having a morning routine is essential ESPECIALLY as a college student. It helps cut down on rushing and forgetting things in the morning. Today I’m gonna share with you my routine to make sure that I look my absolute best!
My morning routine starts the night before by putting my books in my backpack the night before so that I won’t be searching for it in the morning. I normally don’t have time to go back to my room throughout the day so I bring everything I could possibly need with me in the morning. This is a good habit of mine because you might misplace something and then realize it in the morning when you’re rushing. Packing at night can alleviate some of that stress.
The age old question:”What do I want to wear???🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️” I always like to pick out my outfits for the next day the night before too. I almost always have a plan in my head for the next day but sometimes your think tank is on E and you don’t have an idea. Looking for an outfit for the next day can cut down on the amount of time you spend in the morning. It’s also fun to try on new outfits or wear that shirt you only wore once or twice.
Once you have your outfit picked out it’s time to knock out the wrinkles. Ironing your clothes can make or break an outfit. It amazes me how many college students don’t know how to iron. It’s such a crucial part of taking care of your clothes. So if you’re in high school and you’re reading this and you don’t know how to iron then please ask someone!! My mother would never let me leave the house with wrinkles in my clothes. Ironing your clothes at night also helps to alleviate morning stress and leaves you with more time.
Alarms are essential!⏰I repeat, alarms are essential!! If you set an alarm, then PLEASE, wake up to it. It makes it easier on yourself if you simply just wake up. I always set my alarm an hour before my first class starts. That way I have 30 minutes to get ready and 30 minutes to eat breakfast. I recommend setting a song for your alarm that will start your day off in a positive mindset. My alarm song is Be Good by Gregory Porter. It’s a jazz song that opens with a nice piano introduction and really helps to get me going.
Now I know we all loooovvveee our showers but you gotta get in and get out. Morning showers are great for me. It’s so refreshing to have a clean start(ba dm tsss🥁) You get to wash away all of yesterday’s worries and cares and start anew.
These are the products I use for my after shower routine. To moisturize my skin I use palmers cocoa butter. It smells so great and it leaves my skin feeling silky smooth and soft for the entire day. I then use Axe spray on deodorant. I used to use roll on stick deodorant but it would drip when I get hot and leave pit stains. I looked up how to get rid of them and I saw that spray on deodorant does a good job of not dripping. After testing it out for a couple days I found it to be true! I then move on to take care of my beard. I use Shea Moisture beard detangler. It helps to soften and manage beard hairs of African American men. We all know our hair can get a little nappy at times and the hair on our faces are no different. I only use a small amount and then rub it in my beard and then pick it out with a small afro pick. Finally I use Cantu moisturizer for my hair. Although I wear hats all the time, I still want to have healthy hair. This product helps to keep my hair soft and moisturized while also smelling great!
Finally after all is said and done, I put on my clothes and look in the mirror to make sure everything looks about me looks presentable. Even if it’s a t shirt and sweats day, I still want to look my best in my t shirt and sweats. You never know who you’re going to run into throughout the day so you always want to make sure you are on your A game👍🏾
I hope this was of value to you and that maybe you can model your own routine from this. Thanks for reading!
